New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- Nearly 200,000 youngsters across the United States, many of whom have lived in the country for their entire lives, are now at major risk of losing their legal status as soon as they turn 21. Under the Donald Trump administration, a key policy change could severely affect children of people who are long-waiting green card applicants, due to the new interpretation of immigration law that has upended protection for them.
The previous administration, led by Joe Biden, had in February 2023 allowed children to get their age locked through the 'Dates for Filing' chart of the US State Department to remain eligible for a green card. This helped them avoid aging out before becoming eligible for a green card.
