New Delhi, June 12 -- The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off in style on June 11 as co-host Mexico defeated South Africa 2-0 in front of a roaring crowd at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. This match was a reverse of the 2010 World Cup opener, when South Africa hosted Mexico and drew 1-1.
