US Supreme Court upholds state bans on transgender athletes in girls' and women's sports
New Delhi, June 30 -- The US Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that states can bar transgender girls and women from competing on female school and college sports teams, upholding laws enacted in West Virginia and Idaho in a landmark decision on transgender rights.
The ruling allows states to restrict participation in girls' and women's sports based on biological sex, marking another major victory for President Donald Trump's administration, which backed the states in the case.
In a unanimous 9-0 decision, the justices held that the laws do not violate Title IX, the federal civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in education.
