UEFA Champions League to honour flood victims before all 18 matches: 'You are not alone...'
New Delhi, Sept. 7 -- European football will pause before every Champions League fixture this week to remember the victims of Nepal's late-August flash floods and landslides. UEFA confirmed on Monday that a moment of silence and a solidarity banner will take place ahead of all 18 league-phase games, starting on Tuesday night.
The governing body said the gesture is meant as support for a country still searching for thousands of missing people more than a week after the disaster.
"A moment of silence will be held, and a banner will be displayed as a sign of solidarity and support ahead of all UEFA Champions League matches this week," UEFA said in a statement published on Monday.
