Three newborns dead as 'ventilator explodes' at govt hospital in Maharashtra's Amravati: What we know so far
New Delhi, Aug. 24 -- Three newborn babies reportedly died after a fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the government-run District Women's Hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, early on Monday.
The fire erupted around 3.30 am on the third floor of the hospital, reportedly following a ventilator explosion in the neonatal unit, according to preliminary information reported by news agency ANI on Monday.
A ventilator in the NICU on the third floor of the hospital suddenly sparked at 3.15 am, triggering a fire in the unit, an official told PTI.
Doctors, nurses, and other staff on duty immediately launched an evacuation operation and managed to rescue several infants from the ward.
