The Indian refrigerator problem: Why your high capacity fridge feels full even when it isn't
New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- When you look at the capacity of the refrigerator at a showroom it looks spacious and promising. Then what happens when you bring it home, start storing items and just in a few days its overflowing and cramped.
For small Indian families, this is a familiar problem. Milk packets, vegetables, fruits, leftovers, curd, water bottles, sauces and frozen food can quickly turn an apparently spacious refrigerator into a game of Tetris.
The obvious solution is to buy a refrigerator with more litres. But capacity isn't the only thing that determines how much food you can actually store. The internal layout, shelf dimensions, freezer space and your family's eating and shopping habits can matter just as much.
