New Delhi, Aug. 4 -- The Ministry of External Affairs (MA) on Monday said that India will take measures to safeguard national interests and economic security.

The remarks came after Trump said he would be "substantially raising" the tariff on Indian exports to the US over New Delhi's purchases of Russian oil.

India has been targeted by the United States and the European Union for importing oil from Russia after the commencement of the Ukraine conflict. In fact, India began importing from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict.
