Homemakers, too, may be required to submit tax returns if they earn income from sources other than a regular salary. Such earnings generally fall under the category of 'Income from Other Sources' and may include interest from fixed deposits, rental income from property, or returns from investments. If these earnings exceed the exemption limits prescribed by the government, filing an ITR becomes compulsory.
