New Delhi, Dec. 8 -- The Indian stock market suffered significant losses in intraday trading on Monday, December 8, with the benchmark indices falling by nearly 1%, and the mid- and small-cap segments experiencing deeper losses of up to 2%.
The Sensex crashed over 800 points, or nearly 1%, to an intraday low of 84,906.90, while the Nifty 50 dropped by 1% to an intraday low of 25,902.95. The sell-off was intense in mid and small-cap spaces as the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices crashed more than 2% each during the session.
The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms dropped below Rs.464 lakh crore from Rs.471 lakh crore in the previous session, making investors poorer by more than Rs.7 lakh crore in a single session.
