Perfume makers feel ethanol squeeze, weigh price hikes
Bengaluru, Sept. 19 -- Smelling good could get costlier this festive season. Perfume makers are grappling with higher costs of ethanol, a key ingredient in alcohol-based fragrances, and glass bottles, putting pressure on margins and prompting some companies to consider price increases.
Ethanol prices have climbed as tighter domestic supplies and stronger demand from the fuel-blending programme squeeze availability, while glass bottle costs have risen by as much as 20% over the past year, industry executives said.
Vini Cosmetics Pvt. Ltd, which owns the Fogg and Ossum brands, is weighing a price increase during or after the festive season, with a decision expected by October and a possible hike from November. The company, though, has no ...
