New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- The Nobel Prize in Physics 2026 goes to Francis Halzen "for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin", the Nobel committee declared.

The physicist realised that South Pole ice could track neutrinos. His scientific leadership established the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It used a cubic kilometre of sensor-equipped ice to capture cosmic neutrinos from high-energy processes in the distant universe.
