New Delhi, July 21 -- The Code on Wages, one of the four new labour codes, lays down clear timelines for when employers must pay salaries and wages. It requires monthly salaries to be paid before the expiry of the seventh day of the succeeding month and mandates payment of final dues within two working days after an employee resigns, is dismissed, removed or retrenched.

The law also extends protections relating to timely payment of wages to all employees, irrespective of their salary, replacing the earlier framework that applied only up to a specified wage ceiling. It further provides a mechanism for employees to seek redress in cases of delayed wage payments or unauthorised deductions.
