New Delhi, Sept. 26 -- San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier named Macklin Celebrini team captain on Friday, making the 20-year-old the youngest player in franchise history to hold the role and the youngest current captain in the NHL.

Celebrini is the 11th full-time captain in club history. The position had been vacant since Logan Couture, who was appointed for the 2019-20 season and retained the role through 2024-25 even after a career-ending groin and pelvic injury kept him off the ice. Couture announced his retirement on April 15, 2025. Patrick Marleau previously held the franchise mark for youngest captain when he was named at age 24 in 2004.
