Lake Ontario is now 'Lake America' on Google Maps for US users after Trump's renaming order
New Delhi, Aug. 30 -- Google Maps has begun displaying Lake Ontario as Lake America for users in the United States, putting into effect President Donald Trump's latest geographical renaming order amid continuing tensions between Washington and Ottawa.
The technology company said the change was being rolled out in line with its existing practice of following the naming conventions used by the US Geographic Names Information System (GNIC). What's worth noting is that the updated label will not appear the same way for all users.
Google in a latest statement, "People using Maps in the U.S. will see "Lake America," those in Canada will continue to see "Lake Ontario," and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names."
