New Delhi, Sept. 28 -- Former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has confirmed that Israel received an advance warning about a planned Hamas offensive before the October 7, 2023 attack, raising fresh questions over whether Israeli leaders adequately acted on intelligence ahead of the assault.

Gallant told Army Radio that a warning was received through a channel maintained by Shin Bet, Israel's internal security agency.

The warning indicated that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was preparing an offensive against Israel.

Gallant's remarks come amid reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also received warnings from regional partners about a potential large-scale Hamas attack.
