New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- Donald Trump's new H-1B visa rules may not affect Indian technology companies much. Indian IT companies seem to be less exposed to new US visa restrictions. This follows years of reducing dependence on H-1B visas.

Nasscom, representing India's $315 billion IT industry, confirmed this shift on 25 August, according to Bloomberg. Companies have expanded local hiring significantly over the past five years.

The group noted growing investment in US STEM education, too. It framed the new $103,000 sponsorship fee in terms of its original policy goals.

The White House announced this new fee proposal on Monday, 24 August. It marks the latest attempt at tightening the H-1B programme.
