New Delhi, Sept. 25 -- India is considering a plan to set up 15 additional overground liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks across the country, boosting the nation's storage capacity by about two weeks , said three people aware of the plan.

The plan to build the critical storage capacity will require an investment of Rs.15,000 crore, adding to the country's existing capacity of 12 days across more than 20 tanks, the people said.

To support the project, the gas regulator may bring an additional surcharge of about 10% on the pipeline tariff paid by user sectors such as city gas and fertilizers, one of the people said.
