New Delhi, Aug. 21 -- India has overtaken China in the smartphone exports race to send its products to the United States. The share of smartphones manufactured in India in US imports climbed to 44% during April-June 2025, a sharp rise from 13% in the same quarter of 2024. At the same time, China's share dropped from 61% to 25% in the same period.

The growth was fuelled by Make in India initiatives and production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

In a post on platform X, the central government cited a report from the Singapore-based research agency Canalys, which stated that in the second quarter of the calendar year 2025, India had overtaken China due to schemes like Make in India and PLI.
