New Delhi, May 24 -- The World Health Organisation formally declared the Ebola outbreak spreading across the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 17 May, triggering a cascade of international responses that now includes a travel advisory from the Government of India. The outbreak, caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain of the virus for which no approved vaccine or treatment exists, has recorded 204 deaths from 867 suspected cases across three provinces of the DRC, making it the second largest Ebola outbreak in recorded history after the 2014 to 2016 West Africa epidemic.
