New Delhi, Nov. 8 -- The US Department of Education has issued a press release explaining changes to the government's student debt programme aligned with President Donald Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act' aka OBBBA.

The consensus was reached during negotiated rulemaking session held over two weeks in September and November, "to place commonsense limits and guardrails on future student loan borrowing and simplify the federal student loan repayment system." it added.

The changes will come into effect from July 2026.
