New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- The ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) plans to significantly broaden the scope of its monthly Index of Services Production (ISP). By incorporating education, healthcare and residential care, along with public administration and defence, the index could cover roughly 80% of India's services-sector gross value added (GVA), up from around 60% at present.

To that end, MoSPI has released an approach paper outlining methodologies to track output across these three service areas. They were excluded from the initial ISP framework due to their non-market structure, heavy government footprint, or GST-exempt status.
