FIFA takes AI help to safeguard all 48 teams from social media abuse at 2026 World Cup; how does it work? Explained
New Delhi, June 8 -- In an attempt safeguard the players at the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has sought expanded help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reduce the amount of social media abuses during the June 11 to July 19 tournament. The world football's apex body has introduced the social media protection service and lend its moderation element for free to all the 48 football associations this year.
Hatred and racism have increased significantly in football in the past few years. According to a FIFPRO (International Federation of Professional Footballers) report, over 20 million abusive, discriminatory, or threatening posts and comments on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube were reported at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
