New Delhi, Aug. 14 -- Two earthquakes of moderate intensity struck on the early morning of August 14 - one in Dhubri district in Assam and another in North Island of New Zealand.

An earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck Dhubri district in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported.

Another earthquake of magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck New Zealand 's lower North Island Wednesday, with a jolt rated as moderate by the country's geological sciences agency.

According to the NCS, the tremor occurred at 1:01 am IST, at a depth of 10 km, with its epicentre located at 26.28degN latitude and 89.87degE longitude.
