Centre to introduce Bill criminalising digital arrests and AI-generated deepfakes
New Delhi, July 29 -- The Centre on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it plans to introduce a Bill in the ongoing Parliament session to make digital arrests and AI-generated deepfakes distinct criminal offences, according to a Times of India report.
The move comes after the Supreme Court observed that existing laws do not specifically deal with such offences. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that the proposed legislation would classify AI-generated deepfakes as a separate crime with specific legal consequences.
