New Delhi, Sept. 23 -- Mirabai Chanu added another major medal to her career on Wednesday, winning silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Chanu finished with a total of 198kg, combining an 87kg snatch with a 111kg clean and jerk. North Korea's Ri Song Gum won gold with 215kg, while Indonesia's Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana claimed bronze with 191kg.

The Asian Games medal was Chanu's first at the continental multi-sport event. She had finished ninth at the 2014 Asian Games, missed the 2018 edition because of injury and finished fourth at the 2023 Hangzhou Games after an injury affected her final clean-and-jerk attempt.
