New Delhi, Oct. 10 -- The rote assurance of an "investigation" into the latest alarming incident involving yet another Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner does little to inspire confidence that either the civil aviation regulator or the airline's management is treating safety issues with the seriousness they demand.

On 5 October, an Air India B787, en route from Amritsar to Birmingham, UK, experienced an "uncommanded" deployment of its Ram Air Turbine (RAT), a safety device that uses the aircraft's momentum to force wind through a turbine to generate emergency power.
