New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- Japanese Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, won applause at an event in Hansalpur, Gujarat, after he greeted the audience in fluent Gujarati in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The occasion marked the launch of Maruti Suzuki's electric vehicle (EV) and battery plant, where PM Modi also unveiled the company's first electric car, the e-Vitara, which will be exported to more than 100 countries. Congratulating both nations, the Prime Minister said the achievement was a milestone for India, Japan and Suzuki Motor Corporation.

During his remarks, Ambassador Ono surprised the gathering by switching to Gujarati. He greeted the crowd saying, "Namaste Mitron! Kem Chho! (Namaste people. How are you?)."
