Kolkata, Aug. 4 -- A youth was arrested for allegedly raping and cheating a woman with a promise to marry her in the Purba Jadavpur area in South Kolkata.
According to sources, the victim woman had met the accused, identified as Anubhav Bhattacharya, on social media. After a few days of interaction, they exchanged their mobile numbers and started talking over the phone.
The duo subsequently met and became close to each other. In such a situation, one day, the accused youth invited the woman to his birthday party. On reaching the address given by Bhattacharya, the woman saw she was the only one invited there.
The woman further alleged that Bhattacharya raped her at his place by promising her to marry. A few days later, the woman was again raped by the accused on the same pretext. Recently, Bhattacharya allegedly asked the woman for Rs 1.5 lakh for his business.
He convinced the victim woman that they were going to marry soon. However, after getting the money, Bhattacharya started avoiding her. Gradually, he stopped communicating with the woman, following which the victim lodged a complaint against the accused youth at the Pirba Jadavpur Police Station.
A few days ago, Bhattacharya was arrested.
