Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- A bedridden youth was allegedly murdered by his elder brother inside their residence in the Raghunathpur area of Baguiati on Sunday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Balaram Rajbanshi, 31, was mentally challenged and had been physically incapacitated following a severe medical condition two years ago. His mother works as a domestic help, while his elder brother Krishna Rajbanshi and their father run a local fish business.
On Sunday morning, the family members left the house, leaving Balaram and their pet dog behind. In the afternoon, Balaram's mother returned home and found her younger son lying motionless with a severe head injury. The almirahs had been vandalised and several costly items and cash were missing. The pet dog was found locked inside a room.
During the investigation, police sent the body for autopsy and questioned Krishna and his parents. Neighbours told the police that they had neither heard any noise nor the dog barking. Suspecting Krishna's involvement, police questioned him further, following which he allegedly confessed to killing Balaram to acquire the entire property in his name.
He allegedly vandalised the almirahs and removed valuables to make the murder appear as a robbery. Police are interrogating him further to recover the stolen articles.
