India, Aug. 22 -- The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved the development of a dedicated Taiwan City and a large medical hub in its area, in a move aimed at attracting high-tech manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceutical investments to the region. The Taiwan City will be developed across 300 acres in Sector 6, with plots to be allotted to Taiwan-based companies. The project is expected to create a cluster of electronics, semiconductor, information and communications technology (ICT) and other high-tech manufacturing companies in the Yamuna City region. A senior YEIDA official said the project is envisaged as a dedicated ecosystem for Taiwanese companies and their supply-chain partners. It is expected to attract high-value investments, generate employment and provide local MSMEs with opportunities to integrate into global manufacturing supply chains.
The concentration of Taiwanese companies could also encourage ancillary units, logistics firms and support services to establish operations around major manufacturers. The integrated industrial ecosystem is expected to cover multiple stages of production, from raw materials and components to finished electronic and technology products. YEIDA has also approved a 500-acre medical hub in Sectors 13 and 14, where plots will be allotted to medical and healthcare companies. In addition, the authority plans to develop a 100-125-acre pharmaceutical formulation manufacturing cluster in Sector 6. The cluster will accommodate Indian and international pharmaceutical companies producing tablets, capsules, injectables, oral liquids and topical preparations in accordance with global Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). YEIDA has also approved a proposal to constitute a technical expert committee to examine the technical, financial and institutional aspects of establishing an international-standard medical device testing facility at its Medical Device Park.
The proposed facility is expected to reduce Indian manufacturers' dependence on overseas laboratories for product testing and conformity assessment, while supporting exports and attracting further investment to the region.
