India, Aug. 18 -- A 32-year-old factory worker died after reportedly falling into an eight to 10-foot-deep waterlogged pit on a vacant private plot while returning home from work in Delhi's Rohini late Thursday night, police said. The deceased, identified as Himanshu Pal, worked at a private factory in Mundka and lived near the plot in Brij Vihar, Prem Nagar. The incident occurred around 11 pm when Pal was returning home after his evening shift. Police were alerted through a PCR call received at Prem Nagar Police Station. A neighbour reportedly spotted Pal floating in the water and raised an alarm. Several residents gathered at the spot and attempted to rescue him using a rope, but their efforts failed. Pal's father, Raj Kumar, said his son had left for work around 4 pm. Police suspect he may have accidentally fallen into the pit and said the case was prima facie accidental, though all possibilities were being examined. The plot owner has not been identified. Police are also probing how the pit became waterlogged and whether rainfall was responsible. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Pal is survived by his wife and three-year-old son.
