Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- A youth was detained on Tuesday in Jamuria following the discovery of his wife's charred body at their residence.
The detained youth, identified as Narottam Mondal, happens to be the former youth leader of TMC in Pandabeswar. On Tuesday morning, the body of his wife, Pampa Mandal (40), was recovered from their home in Sonpur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kenda outpost under the control of Jamuria police station.
On Tuesday morning, the neighbours reportedly first discovered the body with severe burn injuries and immediately alerted the police. Mondal was reportedly away from the house when the body was found. Upon returning, investigators summoned him and placed him under detention for interrogation to ascertain whether the incident was a homicide or a suicide.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the neighbours became alert after smoke was seen coming from the Mondal family's residence.
This marks the second time Mandal has faced law enforcement action recently, having previously been arrested in August under separate allegations related to post-poll violence and extortion.
