Darjeeling, May 11 -- The cremation of a 78-year-old tourist from Paschim Bardhaman took place in Kalimpong on Monday. He had died after falling ill while on a visit to Kalimpong district with his family.

According to police sources, Asit Baran Bag, a resident of MAML Township under the Township Police Station in Paschim Bardhaman district, was brought dead to the Kalimpong District Hospital on Sunday morning.

Hospital authorities informed the police at around 11.25 am following which Kalimpong Police Station registered an unnatural death case at the Kalimpong police station.

During preliminary enquiry, police learnt that the deceased had come to Kalimpong along with his wife Mina Bag and other relatives and was staying at a farm-stay in Loleygaon. Family members stated that Bag had been suffering from heart-related ailments for a long time.

On Sunday morning, after he complained of uneasiness, family members rushed him to the district hospital, where the attending medical officer declared him dead.

Police have initiated necessary legal formalities and an enquiry is underway.

The body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem. They, however, preferred to cremate him in Kalimpong.
