Kolkata, Sept. 27 -- The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) plans to set up a fair-price veterinary pharmacy at its Belgachia campus to provide medicines and other animal healthcare products at discounted rates to patients visiting its Veterinary Clinical Complex.
The university has invited private operators to establish and run the pharmacy under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The selected operator will have to offer a minimum 30 percent discount on the maximum retail price (MRP) of medicines, vaccines, surgical and dressing materials, animal feed supplements and other approved products.
The move is aimed at addressing the difficulties faced by pet owners, livestock owners, farmers and other beneficiaries who currently depend on private pharmacies outside the university campus for prescribed medicines and related products.
The university said this could make it difficult to obtain medicines, delay treatment and increase expenses.
The proposed pharmacy will stock veterinary medicines, vaccines, injections, surgical items, dressings, diagnostic and laboratory consumables, nutritional supplements and other approved animal healthcare products.
