New Delhi, Sept. 19 -- The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) will use India Post to collect and transport used OMR answer sheets after each Higher Secondary Semester III examination, replacing the earlier practice of sending them through railway parcel services. The move follows difficulties faced by examination centres in booking parcels at nearby railway stations, which often forced officials to travel farther and incur additional costs.
Under the new system, each block will have at least one designated post office where centre officials can deposit sealed OMR packets. Centre secretaries will collect, seal and pack the used OMR sheets after every examination and hand them over to India Post personnel for delivery to the Council's regional offices.
The Council has also separated the distribution of question papers and OMR sheets. Question papers have been sent to 428 custodians, while OMR sheets have been sent directly to Centre-in-Charge officials for distribution to examination venues, reducing the handling burden.
The Semester III examinations will be held from September 21 to October 14, with 7,18,620 candidates registered across 825 centres and 2,105 venues. CCTV surveillance, metal-detector checks and strict restrictions on electronic gadgets will remain in place.
The examination schedule has been revised due to the October 6 by-elections in Nandigram and Rejinagar. Papers scheduled for October 5, 6 and 7 will now be held on October 12, 13 and 14. Vocational papers scheduled for September 22 have also been shifted to October 13 due to the Karam Puja holiday.
