Kolkata, July 8 -- The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has retained the 40-student ceiling for vocational subject classes, saying the existing Samagra Shiksha guidelines and approved Programme Approval Board (PAB) norms do not permit an increase in admissions beyond that limit.

In a recently issued notification, the council said several schools had sought permission to increase the intake in vocational subjects beyond 40 students per class. It referred the matter to the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET), which informed the council that the existing guidelines do not support raising the admission limit for any job role. The council has directed all affiliated institutions to continue following the existing admission cap.

In separate notifications, the WBCHSE announced that online enrolment for Semester III of the Higher Secondary Examination, 2027, will be held from July 17 to July 31. Schools have been asked to submit enrolment forms online during the period along with the prescribed fees.

The council also announced the availability of Semester III textbooks for newly introduced subjects. Bengali editions of Environmental Science and Fisheries and Aquaculture are now available at the Book Mart in Vidyasagar Bhavan for Rs 100 and Rs 40, respectively, and will be supplied to regional offices shortly. Bengali editions of Business Mathematics and Business Statistics (BMBS) and Basic Mathematics for Social Sciences (BMSS), priced at Rs 150 each, are already available at the Book Mart and will soon be available at the council's

regional offices.
