India, July 24 -- Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed and another sustained serious injuries after a fellow jawan allegedly opened fire at a BSF camp in Baishnabnagar, Malda, on Thursday. The injured jawan is undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital. According to preliminary information, the victims belonged to the 71 Battalion, while the accused, identified as Shivam Mishra, is attached to the 119 Battalion. The incident took place at the headquarters shared by the 119 and 71 Battalions in Baishnabnagar, where the accused allegedly fired at his colleagues. The deceased have been identified as Ajay Kumar Singh (51), a resident of Manjhi in Bihar's Saran (Chhapra) district, and Ambadas Suresh Dargu (37), a resident of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. The injured jawan, Vikas Brahma (44), hails from Mohananda village under Kolba police station in Hooghly district, West Bengal. Police from Baishnabnagar Police Station have launched an investigation into the incident. The accused jawan has been named in the case, and further inquiry is underway to ascertain the motive behind the firing. BSF Malda Sector DIG Surendra Kumar Jha confirmed the incident and said "The force has initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited as the probe continues."
