Kolkata, May 14 -- Allegations of vandalism, intimidation and violence linked to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have surfaced across several educational institutions in Bengal in recent months, with the saffron student organisation repeatedly denying involvement and blaming former Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) activists for the incidents.
The latest allegation surfaced at Dantan Bhatter College in West Midnapore, where a group allegedly vandalised the students' union room and set it on fire on Tuesday while raising slogans in the name of ABVP. Videos circulated on social media showed a group breaking doors and furniture and shouting "Jai Shri Ram" slogans inside the campus.
In a statement, ABVP termed the Dantan incident "deeply concerning and condemnable" and demanded a fair investigation.
The incident came on the heels of allegations that Vidyasagar University vice-chancellor Dipak Kumar Kar was heckled during campus unrest. ABVP had denied involvement in that episode as well.
Similar allegations emerged in north Bengal, where student organisation AIDSO alleged attacks and intimidation by BJP supporters during demonstrations over alleged examination irregularities at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
