Pune, Sept. 12 -- Senior Congress leader, socialist thinker and political analyst Dr Ratnakar Mahajan passed away at his residence in Pune on Saturday following a brief illness, his close associates said.
Mahajan (80) had been ailing for the past few days, his associates said. His last rites will be performed at the Vaikunth Smashanbhoomi later in the day.
Originally from Indapur taluka, Mahajan moved to Pune for higher education.
He championed social causes through organisations and movements such as the Yuvak Kranti Dal, Rashtra Seva Dal, Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, and student movements.
Following his entry into the Congress, Mahajan served as the spokesperson for the party's Maharashtra unit and also served as the editor of 'Shidori' magazine.
