Varanasi, Oct. 25 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Sunday and, as on previous occasions, presented a new gift to the people of Kashi. The Prime Minister inaugurated a manufacturing plant of Gujarat-based textile company Arvind Limited (Arvind Mills) at Khochawan in Mirzamurad.

Built on around seven acres at a cost of approximately Rs.150 crore, the facility will generate employment opportunities for thousands of people from the region, including Purvanchal.

Local women have been given priority in recruitment, and more than 300 women have already been hired and are undergoing training at the unit. The plant is expected to employ a total of 1,000 women. The initiative will strengthen Uttar Pradesh's textile and garment manufacturing ecosystem.

After inaugurating the plant, the Prime Minister interacted with company officials and enquired about the garments being manufactured there, as well as khadi fabrics and the materials used in their production. Emphasising the theme of 'Apna Hunar, Apni Pehchaan', he also interacted with the women working at the plant.

The Prime Minister sought detailed information about their work and the challenges they face. He also visited an exhibition showcasing fabrics manufactured by Arvind Mills.

Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Arvind Mills officials and employees, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

This is Arvind Mills' first major manufacturing plant in Purvanchal. Construction of Phase II will begin after the plant becomes operational, creating employment opportunities for thousands more people.

The new facility in Kashi will manufacture sportswear, undergarments and other garments. It will produce clothing for reputed brands such as Jockey, US Polo and Arrow.

Arvind Mills is not merely a textile manufacturing company. Its operations span the entire value chain, from yarn and fabrics to finished garments and specialised textiles for industrial applications.

Established in 1931, the company is headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In addition to denim, it manufactures cotton and linen fabrics, suiting and shirting materials, and sportswear, while supplying fabrics to domestic and international apparel brands.

Earlier, upon the Prime Minister's arrival at the helipad in Khochawan, Mirzamurad, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed Narendra Modi with bouquets.
