Saharanpur, July 31 -- A farmer from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur has set a domestic agricultural record by selling four rare Japanese Miyazaki mangoes, weighing one kilogram, for Rs 2.11 lakh.
Sandeep Chaudhary of Tharoli village sold the premium fruit to Surat-based businessman Praveen Gupta, originally from Haridwar, who purchased it as a gift for his 80-year-old ailing mother. The mangoes were originally valued at Rs 3.5 lakh, but Chaudhary reduced the price after learning the purpose of the purchase. He said he started cultivating Miyazaki mangoes with just two saplings despite being mocked and now has 40 trees. Miyazaki is regarded as one of the world's costliest mango varieties. MPOST
