Kolkata, Aug. 31 -- The state police's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested an Additional Sub-Registrar (ADSR) of the Uluberia Sub-Registrar Office on Monday for allegedly accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe.
According to ACB officials, the officer had allegedly demanded the money from a local law clerk and document writer to expedite property registration work. The clerk approached the ACB, following which a trap was laid at the office.
As part of the operation, the complainant handed over chemically treated currency notes to the ADSR.
The ACB team, positioned nearby, entered the office soon after and allegedly caught the officer red-handed with the cash.
A chemical test of his hands returned positive, indicating contact with the treated notes. Rs 20,000 was recovered from his possession.
The accused was taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The arrest comes amid a series of ACB operations in the past two months, during which several government employees, including police personnel, were allegedly caught accepting bribes.
