New Delhi, April 15 -- The entry of foreign universities on Indian soil has gained momentum. The latest to enter India with its first overseas campus in Bengaluru is Birkbeck, University of London. Students in India will be able to access the same degree that is offered in London, but at nearly 60% lower cost. "The students will now be able to access world-class international education at significantly lower costs, nearly 60% less compared to studying abroad. This is critical to ensuring equity and expanding opportunities," said Vineet Joshi, Chairperson, UGC.
The Bengaluru campus will offer globally recognised University of London degrees, maintaining the same rigorous academic standards, research-driven teaching, and industry-integrated curriculum as its UK counterpart. Birkbeck also plans to incorporate artificial intelligence into both teaching and learning processes. Founded in 1823, the university has more than 1,000 international students from over 100 countries.
Located in Sattva Tech Park, in one of Bengaluru's most important technology and business districts, which is home to the India headquarters of many global technology companies, students will be able to study both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in business management and business analytics at the Birkbeck, University of London campus.
Professor Sally Wheeler OBE, Vice-Chancellor of Birkbeck, University of London said, "Birkbeck, University of London is well-known in the UK for the quality of education it provides and for the transformational impact this has on its students' lives, as well as the benefits this brings to the London, UK and wider international economy. We are looking forward to enabling students in India to benefit from the same high quality Birkbeck university education as their counterparts in the UK."
