
Malda, May 14 -- Two labourers went missing at Muchia under Old Malda block, after a boat carrying harvested paddy capsized in the middle of the Tangon River on Wednesday evening. Farmers were transporting freshly cut paddy from farmlands located across the river when the mishap occurred. While several labourers managed to swim ashore, two workers remain untraced.
Civil Defence personnel launched a search operation with speed boats on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, tension gripped Araidanga village under Pukhuria police station after the body of 24-year-old Ritwik Ghosh was recovered from the Mahananda River seven days after he went missing. Family members alleged that he was murdered over a financial dispute and his body was dumped in the river.
In another incident, the body of a 20-year-old youth, Gopal Sarkar, was recovered from bushes beside the railway tracks near the old Bulbulchandi railway station on Thursday morning. Police is conducting an investigation
