Kolkata, July 9 -- After the attack on the TMC's students' and youth wing rally that was being held with the high court permission over the Baruipur rape-murder incident, the party on Thursday demanded the immediate arrest of those it identified as alleged BJP supporters involved in the violence.
In a post on its social media handle, the TMC shared photographs of several individuals, claiming they were among those responsible for attacking the rally. Millennium Post, however, could not independently verify the photographs.
"Take a look at the faces of the BJP miscreants accused of attacking the TMC rally from Ballygunge Phari to Hazra yesterday. We demand the immediate arrest of all those responsible," the party said.
Tagging Kolkata Police, the TMC added: "We are watching, and we expect action."
The demand comes a day after the party alleged that BJP supporters disrupted the High Court-permitted rally by raising slogans, playing loud music, hurling eggs and assaulting party workers. TMC had claimed that 41 workers, supporters and leaders were injured in the clashes and admitted to SSKM Hospital.
Party supremo Mamata Banerjee had earlier accused the police of failing to ensure the peaceful conduct of the procession despite the High Court's order and said the party would initiate contempt proceedings against those responsible for violating the court's directions.
The BJP has denied the allegations, stating that it was a public grievance, and accused the TMC of attempting to politicise the incident.
However, no arrests had been made till the report went to print.
