Kolkata, May 17 -- The Trinamool Congress on Sunday alleged widespread post-poll violence in parts of South 24 Parganas, accusing BJP-backed miscreants of attacking its workers, vandalising party offices and murdering a party activist in Baruipur East Assembly constituency.

In a series of posts on X, the party claimed that TMC worker Bijendra Nath Mondal and his family were "brutally attacked" at Uttaravag Lalpole under Baruipur East following the election results. The party alleged that Mondal's family members were mercilessly beaten and their house was extensively damaged during the violence.

The Trinamool Congress also alleged that its worker Asim Roy was beaten to death on May 4 at Kholaghata More under Baruipur East Assembly constituency. The party claimed that despite complaints being lodged, the police failed to take action. Calling the incident "political violence", the TMC alleged a "complete collapse of accountability" and accused BJP-backed elements of unleashing terror in the area.

The party further alleged that BJP supporters captured the Champahati Anchal party office and the INTTUC office at Piyali Bazar under Champahati gram panchayat in Baruipur East block. According to the TMC, several workers were assaulted after the declaration of results.

A Trinamool Congress fact-finding delegation visited the affected areas, including Piyali Railway Colony and Piyali Bazar. Sharing photographs and videos from the visit, the party also raised questions over the presence of unidentified men allegedly carrying helmets and lathis during the incidents.
