Kolkata, Sept. 9 -- TMC delegation visited the family of booth worker Palan Roy in Bakhrahat, South 24-Parganas, following his death in police custody. The delegation, sent on Mamata Banerjee's instructions, included TMC leader Anjan Das and Ganamancha members.
Roy's family alleged he was taken to the police station on September 7 after an argument with local BJP worker Vijay Singh alias Buchai. They were told he would be released after speaking to senior officers, but later received a call saying he had fallen ill. His son allegedly found him dead at the hospital.
The incident triggered protests in Bakhrahat, with locals blocking the road and alleging that Roy had been assaulted in custody. His body was released early Wednesday after the post-mortem.
TMC leader Dola Sen condemned the incident and demanded justice and a probe. She also alleged that Roy's son was injured while trying to enter the police station to meet his father. Sen claimed Roy's death was the third alleged custodial death in Bengal since the BJP government came to power, following incidents in Baruipur and Halisahar.
The delegation assured the family of continued support and sought a probe, with Sen demanding an end to deaths in police custody.
