Kolkata, May 17 -- Tensions flared at the Kashimuli village in Amta of Howrah after a violent mob, comprising hundreds of villagers, attacked and vandalised the residence of TMC panchayat Pradhan Anjali Dalui on Sunday morning.

According to sources, on Sunday morning, hundreds of villagers surrounded the house of Dalui and started pelting bricks. After a while, a section of the villagers who had attacked the house, barged inside the Pradhan's residence and started vandalising.

The air conditioning machines and CCTV cameras were vandalised as well. Dalui and her family members however managed to flee before the villagers barged inside.

The villagers reportedly alleged that the Pradhan used to demand bribes to provide the villagers with 100 days job card. Also she was allegedly involved in irregularities in distributing the benefits of the housing schemes meant for the villagers.

Villagers alleged that they were forced to pay bribes to get their names listed for government housing and job cards, but the promised funds and homes were never delivered.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a TMC leader who is also the Krishi Karnadhyaksha of Krishnanagar 1 panchayat was arrested on charge of extortion on Saturday night. Sarajit Biswas, the TMC leader was the Pradhan of the panchayat for a long time. It was learnt that Biswas was accused of extorting money from workers working in various factories and liquor factories in Dignagar area. Recently a complaint was filed against him.

Based on that complaint, the police started an investigation which led to his arrest.
