Kolkata, April 16 -- Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday condemned the BJP after one of its activists allegedly used abusive language against party supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing a Press conference, TMC's Shashi Panja and Pratikur Rahaman said the incident reflected a "new low" in political discourse and accused the BJP of encouraging such behaviour.

"It is the BJP's DNA to insult women. In the 2021 Assembly polls, PM Modi catcalled Mamata Banerjee by saying 'Didi O Didi'. It is alarming that attacks and abuse against women are increasing while the BJP talks about Nari

Suraksha," Panja said.

"How can a BJP worker hurl such an abusive remark at a woman chief minister. No BJP leaders have protested the incident," added Panja. TMC on social media wrote: "In 2021, @narendramodi catcalled Smt. @MamataOfficial like a roadside Romeo. Following their leader's cue, @BJP4India leaders have since unleashed the vilest, most disgusting insults against an elected woman Chief Minister."

It further wrote: "They now refer to Didi by her first name, refusing to show even the basic dignity and respect that her position demands. And now, stooping to an unimaginable low, a BJP worker has issued a direct rape threat against her. This is the real Nari-Birodhi DNA of BJP.'

The ruling party also alleged that the EC is partial as it is directing Flying Surveillance Teams to conduct intrusive searches on all TMC leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee and his family.

A four-member TMC delegation led by Aroop Biswas, Shashi Panja submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer in the state pointing out that three days after the Kerala Assembly elections, complete polling data, including constituency-wise figures, vote percentages, and postal ballot statistics, remains unpublished.

"We have flagged the deeply troubling precedent from the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections, where nearly 52 lakh votes were recorded between 8 pm and 2 am, including 17 lakh votes after midnight, at a pace of one vote every 20 seconds. These irregularities were never explained," said Biswas.
