Kolkata, April 15 -- The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged three complaints with the Election Commission against BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday, seeking strict action including show-cause notices, FIRs, and curbs on his campaign statements.

Previously, the ruling party had lodged several complaints over alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). This time, three complaints together indicate a sharp escalation in political tensions ahead of the elections.

The first complaint points to alleged misconduct during an election campaign speech at Sonachura in Nandigram, where Adhikari is contesting as a candidate of the BJP. The letter claims he delivered "a vicious and inflammatory speech" that issued direct threats and incited hatred. According to the complaint, Adhikari called for "revenge" and made remarks suggesting physical harm, along with unverified allegations of violence involving supporters of the Trinamool Congress.

The second complaint accuses Adhikari of making communally sensitive remarks targeting Muslim migrant workers during a campaign speech in Nandigram. The party alleged that his statements amounted to religious polarisation and intimidation, warning of consequences after the election, which it claimed could disturb communal harmony and influence voter behaviour.

The third complaint relates to another alleged statement where Adhikari reportedly warned people to "be careful" of Muslims nearby. The Trinamool Congress termed the remark divisive and accused him of attempting to polarise voters along religious lines.

In all three complaints, the party has urged the Election Commission to take stringent steps to ensure adherence to electoral norms and safeguard free and fair polls.
